The Area

The Gold Coast is the sixth-largest city in Australia and has experienced the greatest population growth rate of any city in the past 25 years.

It is growing at a rate three times the national average and has doubled in size every 12 years for the past 36 years and will continue growing at around 3.5% p.a. for the next 10.

The Station

4GG commenced on air 30th September 1967 as the first licensed station for the Gold Coast. It was owned by a private consortium including a major shareholding from the Gold Coast Bulletin.  2007 is it's 40th anniversary.

In a short time it became the most successful regional radio station in the country and the best known with many local and overseas stars performing on
the air.  In 1989 1 hour after SEA FM went to air 4 double G became 4 triple G.

At this stage the station was owned by Hoyts media and they struggled to compete with SEA FM subsequently changing the name to K Rock and competing for the under 40 demographic.

This tactic left the over 40 market void of a local radio station and many listeners tuned into Brisbane stations.

In 1992 Hoyts realised they were losing money and decided to divest themselves of the licence and in March K Rock changed hands and became the
second station of SEA FM Pty Ltd under the direction of Stan Willmot.

The station was immediately launched as GOLD FM with a solid gold format of the 50' 60's 70's and 80's which started a solid rise to success attracting over 100,000 locals who were delighted they had their own Radio station back.

The success has continued.
